I love working in the studio and I have produced numerous albums etc. I've had my studio tan a few times. But live sound is what really excites and amazes me. Live performance can be pure magic as anyone who has ever seen a good show knows. It's a emotional and uplifting experience unlike anything else. Sound Engineers are very important to the process of live performance. Young engineers who are starting their careers need a thorough grounding in the conventional wisdom of the craft if they expect to advance in the industry. This conventional wisdom can be a hard thing to learn by observation alone.
Many engineers start their careers in churches, small clubs and institutions that have PA systems that need to be operated, yet the venue does not have professional staff to do it. Usually the training volunteers get is "On the Job" or OJT. OJT is an essential part of anyone's education. But it's just one component! Classroom time, book reading and examining the underlying scientific concepts behind processes are just as important if a sound engineer is to be really good at their job.
That's what we can do for you here at SAE OnLine. We are going to teach you why you push a certain button on a compressor or adjust an EQ just so, not just how. We're going to teach you why you need to control the dynamic range of your signal, not just what device to do it with. We're going to teach you the stuff that you can't figure out by just looking at it. There is a lot of hardware and software that you can easily experiment with. It's easy to twist knobs and manipulate faders on the screen till you hear a difference in the sound take place. We're going to teach you the concepts behind those physical processes so that you make intuitive decisions quickly. With this fundamentals knowledge in hand and some OJT, you will work faster and smarter and preserve the artistic flow of the muse when things really heat up. Sound engineers have to make quick decisions and constantly adjust and tweak settings and devices. That's one of the most fun parts of the job! Mastering your workflow, troubleshooting complex problems and staying cool under pressure are all qualities you gain from a thorough grounding in basic principals which in turn give you a high level of confidence. Nobody wants this to happen! The fundamentals and a new sense of confidence in your decision making process on the job. That's what I think is the most important thing that we are going to teach you here at SAE OnLine!
Our passion is to teach you what we already know and practice! That's what your're going to learn in an animation class here. The fundamentals of animation and the concepts behind achieving good results.
If you want to learn about audio mastering, you need to learn about the science and standards behind preparing files for CD replication. Not just how to make it "sound better" ot louder. That's what the Mastering course will teach you, concepts and standards that help you make smart decisions. Smart decisions make customers happy!
Sign up for some of these classes at SAE OnLine and you'll give yourself the fundamental skills that allow you to put into practice what you get from OJT. You'll give yourself a competitive advantage in the job marketplace because you will have a deeper understanding of the conventional wisdom of the industry and the science behind these production arts techniques. Live sound, / Monitoring
I am Guitar player/Singer, All I want is to hear clearly what I believe the crowed should be hearing, I also want all effects in the monitor mix as they should be heard out front. we start out with a reasonable valume, Drums are always the first volume problem the the keys rise and over whelm rather than blend in,The Bass some times fades rather than drive,Or the bass player turns up to compinsate. At that point I am straing my voice rather than sing and BANGING on the guitar rather than playing it, It is Taking away my concentration on the music and Stealing the joy out of playing, HELP ! ( Some times I just want to screem " Are you guys hearing what I am hearing, It sounds like SHoot". Help Help
