Course Description

The Cubase 101 course will teach you all the basic features of Cubase recording and sequencing software from the ground up. It takes you step-by-step from set up to your final mix.

Topics you will cover in this course include:

  • Software configuration
  • Project set up
  • Audio set up and recording
  • MIDI set up and recording
  • Basic editing
  • Mixing and FX

In the beginning of the Cubase course you will learn how to properly configure your system and projects to maximize your workflow and get the most out of your system. Understanding the system set up and how Cubase works with audio and MIDI will help not only your workflow, but troubleshoot any problems you encounter in the future. You'll learn how to get the best sound possible while recording and editing audio, as well as work with all the primary MIDI functions: recording and editing, and using VST instruments.

Once you get comfortable with all of the recording and editing features, the course concludes by giving you tips and techniques to make your mixes better and creatively integrate the effects that are packaged with Cubase.

Basic computer knowledge and an interest in music and music production.

Understanding the basic workflow of Cubase recording and sequencing software. Create your own project using Audi, Midi, Instruments and FX tracks. Learn the basic principles of Cubase and how to practically apply them.

Week 1 - Configuring Cubase, creating a Cubase Project and overview of the main windows
Week 2 - Audio tracks, Recording and Editing Audio
Week 3 - Midi tracks, Instrument tracks, VST Instruments, Recording and Editing Midi
Week 4 - FX tracks and mixing

After the successful completion of this course you will be able to

  • Create a Cubase project using different tracks
  • Perform basic audio recording and editing
  • Perform basic midi recording and editing
  • Use VST Instruments and effects
  • Mix a project using the internal mixer of Cubase

  • Hardware: Computer with minimum system requirements that meet both software and hardware, audio interface (PCI, USB or Firewire), monitor speakers and midi keyboard (optional)
  • Software: Cubase Essential 5, Cubase Studio 5 or Cubase 5
