This mixdown techniques course introduces you to the fundamentals of mixing in the box. It takes you through all the important steps of a complete mixdown procedure in your favorite software (Protools, Logic, Cubase etc). This course deals mainly with rough mixing, using EQ and compressors, automation and preparing for mastering).

Why mastering? Song mixes that are intended for one album often don't match one another in level, frequency balance, etc., or don't have the desired "power" and "size" that listeners expect when buying a commercial track. Mastering fixes those problems. Taking a mix and making it sound like a commercial recording takes a keen understanding of sound, song, commercial expectations, and the entire technical mastering process.
