CMP404 - Professional Development Program

Module Overview

This module provides a platform for students to further develop skills relevant to their professional practice. It may be completed through a number of means, as proposed by the student and agreed, in consultation with an Academic Advisor, as part of the formal Learning Agreement.

Typically, this module will take the form of a number of workshops aimed at developing practical professional abilities. Credit towards this module may also be earned by undertaking further studies with a third party provider of the student's own choosing.

Note: Students who have been awarded the maximum amount of RAL (80 credit points for Module CMP403) do not need to take this module.

Generally, the following guidelines apply:

  • Modules or training course etc, are selected by the student to address individual developmental needs and are approved by the Program Approval Board, leading to a formal Learning Agreement;
  • University regulations allow the inclusion of up to 30 level 3 credit points in an MA program (for instance, relevant modules in the SAE Institute BA/BSc programs);
  • Proposed modules can be from existing SAE Institute stock, or Middlesex University modules, or those offered by another provider;
  • In some cases it will be possible to include specific credit for external courses but where this is not appropriate students will be expected to demonstrate that they have completed the agreed courses and will submit a learning journal / reflective essay; for similar reasons, credit rating for external courses will be dealt with in the same way as in the RAL (Module 403) procedure - the Program Board will confirm that the total program of professional development meets at least the minimum credit points required within the student's overall profile in the program.
